News Article Title : European Xbox Live Launched Date Added : 2003-03-16 02:33:54 On Friday, Microsoft launched Xbox Live in eight additional countries - but without the support of Electronic Arts or Eidos. A Bloomberg article quotes Eidos as saying it's "not comfortable" with a business model in which Microsoft controls the entire system - leaving no incentive for publisher collaboration. This is diametrically opposed to Sony's approach of selling just the connectors needed to hook up to online services run and maintained by the publishers themselves. Microsoft earlier this month announced they've garnered more than 350 thousand subscribers to Xbox Live - to which Sony responded that they've sold more than six hundred thousand PS2 online adaptors. The European Xbox Live service launches today - while Sony will be launching there later this year. |
